Find responsible opportunities to accelerate
CMC teams can challenge the sequence and scale of work without compromising evidence requirements. In one biotech IND program, commissioning 150 grams of an eventual 400-gram requirement allowed studies to begin earlier. A second batch increased cost but limited exposure if the first study failed.
Plan around the real supply network
Include supplier holidays, vacation practices, import constraints, equipment availability, and manufacturing slots in the integrated schedule. Alternative or redundant manufacturing sources can reduce risk where timing is critical, provided the tradeoff is explicit.
Coordinate scientific and regulatory judgment
Cross-functional teams should test whether parallel work or a relevant substitute can produce useful data earlier. Any alternative study strategy needs appropriate scientific justification and regulator agreement where required. Acceleration depends on informed choices across development, manufacturing, and submission planning.
