Build the structure around shared goals

Review whether incentives and organization design support the strategy. Be explicit about work the business will defer. Assess risks to alignment and track team effectiveness alongside commercial indicators.

Create a fair framework for initiative intake, prioritization, debate, and oversight. Assign a person or team to steward execution so strategic commitments remain visible.

Reinforce it through daily behavior

Maintain regular communication and collaborative reviews. Connect with employees beyond direct reports to understand how decisions are working in practice. Hold peers accountable while making it safe to ask for help and report problems.

These nine practices combine changes to systems with changes to behavior. They are most useful as a recurring leadership discipline rather than a checklist completed after annual planning. The objective is a team whose shared priorities survive everyday tradeoffs and whose organization can act with consistent direction.
