Set expectations from the start
Clarify why the project matters, its objectives and scope, each person’s role, time requirements, decision process, and route for raising concerns. A charter, responsibility chart, integrated plan, budget, and risk log create a shared foundation.
Where possible, dedicate a capable project leader rather than adding the assignment to an already full technical role.
Communicate for the audience
Tailor information to stakeholder needs and influence. Frontline employees often experience the greatest impact yet receive the least useful communication. Give them relevant updates, clear actions, and an opportunity to contribute.
Use concise dashboards, focused schedules, and explicit requests to make information easier to act on. Leadership also requires attention to capacity: a sound method cannot create unlimited time. Prioritize honestly and make constraints visible so the team can deliver credible commitments.
