The confidence gap

Across 1,330 respondents, 56 percent expressed confidence in their organization’s ability to meet strategic goals, while 40 percent said projects finished on time. Among executives, confidence was 65 percent, yet only 36 percent reported on-time completion.

What the gap suggests

The findings point to the risk of planning around optimistic assumptions. Leading challenges included insufficient people, shifting priorities, weak execution, low-benefit projects, and limited portfolio analysis. Nearly two-thirds saw alignment to strategy, but only one in five was satisfied with portfolio practices.

Turn insight into discipline

Connect strategy and portfolio review with realistic capacity and repeatable execution. The figures describe the historical assessment population, not a universal industry benchmark or a forecast. Use them to question assumptions and strengthen the organization’s own evidence.
