Challenge

A four-hospital system set a three-year transformation strategy with more than 30 major initiatives, all considered critical. Departmental work added further demands, and employees were fatigued by attempts to do everything at once.

Response

PMO Partners applied a tailored prioritization model, reducing the must-do portfolio by half. It established a strategy realization office, led initially by a PMO Partners director, to maintain oversight, guide execution, communicate progress, and sequence additional work as capacity became available.

Outcome

Within two years, the system delivered major changes including hospital specialization, an acquisition and integration, expanded immediate care, new services and partnerships, revenue cycle improvements, and changes to clinical care. It also gained an enduring execution capability for future strategic planning cycles.
