Test the operational reality

Natural colorants can behave differently under heat, humidity, acidity, and storage conditions. Operations teams should test candidate ingredients while R&D develops formulations, identifying equipment limits, cleaning requirements, shelf-life constraints, and quality benchmarks before recipes are finalized.

Secure supply and protect margins

Work with procurement to evaluate capacity, seasonality, lead times, and handling requirements. Specialized suppliers, diversified sourcing, and appropriate inventory policies may be needed. Finance and operations should model the effect of higher ingredient costs, cold storage, smaller batches, and potential equipment investment.

Coordinate the transition

Align manufacturing, marketing, quality, suppliers, co-packers, and logistics partners on realistic commitments. Communicate process changes early and assess team capacity alongside other major initiatives. A managed program helps teams navigate reformulation while protecting customer expectations and day-to-day production.
