Verify the problem at the source
Go to the work area before planning the event. Use data to guide observation, then validate the actual process, equipment condition, cycle times, and availability of key people. Define a problem statement and objectives connected to business needs.
Prepare and execute deliberately
Build a team with relevant operational and supporting perspectives. Secure time, space, materials, and rapid support for prototypes or tools. Each day, define activities, owners, sequence, and responses to likely issues. Keep the scope visible and review progress frequently.
Finish after the event
Bring the team back after a short return to normal work. Celebrate results, assign outstanding actions and deadlines, and document lessons. Improvement needs continued ownership when the concentrated event ends; the closeout is part of the work.
