Set the boundary

The value drivers behind a deal should define integration success. Determine the operational control, systems, reporting, and infrastructure changes required, along with any transition-service obligations. A clear endpoint reduces uncertainty and gives teams a practical destination.

Create a disciplined intake

An integration management office can compare new ideas against those objectives and recommend decisions to an executive steering committee. In one food-manufacturing example, a necessary warehousing change entered the scope, while a pallet-efficiency idea moved to the post-integration opportunity list.

Transfer ownership intentionally

Measure the agreed outcomes, document lessons, and hand remaining work to the PMO or relevant operating teams with plans and risks intact. Review culture and communication needs as well. Integration success includes a credible transition to the combined organization’s normal operating rhythm.
