Define completion before expanding the work

Integration creates many improvement ideas, but pursuing them all can delay the transaction’s core benefits. Establish success criteria based on the original value drivers, including the operational, quality, regulatory, and system changes that must be complete.

Govern opportunities deliberately

An integration management office can evaluate proposed projects against criticality, complexity, investment, and benefit. Add essential work through a documented approval path and retain other ideas for later improvement. Include transition-service deadlines and realistic resource demands in the plan.

Hand over the business well

Close the integration intentionally. Confirm outcomes, transfer remaining plans and risks, update the playbook, and assess how the combined teams are working together. Communicate the transition and recognize contributors. Ongoing opportunities should move into normal portfolio and continuous-improvement processes.
