Understand the resistance
Prioritization asks leaders to compare unlike investments, give up control, and sometimes stop work they personally support. Natural biases can make one’s own ideas appear more valuable and schedules appear simpler than experience justifies.
Create a disciplined conversation
Use shared criteria, realistic capacity assumptions, and evidence from completed work. Surface the opportunity cost of continuing an initiative and make the consequences of delay visible. An effective process gives executives a way to challenge assumptions without turning every decision into a contest for influence. Recognizing bias does not remove judgment; it helps leaders apply judgment more consistently to enterprise goals.
