Give alignment practical consequences
An executive team can agree on strategy while continuing to fund competing priorities. Alignment becomes meaningful when resource allocation, incentives, and daily decisions reinforce the same direction. PMO Partners research linked fully aligned executive teams with a greater likelihood of reporting revenue growth; that association is a reason to examine behavior, not a guaranteed result.
Make the commitments durable
Leaders should define what the organization will pursue and what it will stop. The PMO can embed those choices in intake rules, prioritization criteria, and escalation paths. Leading signals such as slow decisions, repeated reversals, and weak cross-functional engagement can expose drift.
Maintain a decision rhythm
Regular risk reviews, value updates, and portfolio resets keep the strategy current. Executives retain responsibility for direction; the PMO provides the mechanisms and information that help the organization follow it consistently.
