Challenge

A startup’s translational medicine team had more than ten multiyear CRO contracts and could not confidently allocate its $4.5 million annual budget. Overlapping statements of work and purchase orders obscured program spending and threatened a key data milestone.

Response

PMO Partners reviewed contracts line by line with scientific, finance, and legal colleagues. It identified duplicate and obsolete work, modeled accruals and future spending, and established reporting. New controls connected each statement of work to one program and one purchase order, with amendments handled consistently.

Outcome

The review identified more than $2 million available for additional lead-asset research. Negotiations canceled $2.1 million in unnecessary work and secured a $566,000 credit for future assays. Leadership regained confidence, and the company extended the supplier management practices across departments.

An edited client story. Outcomes and figures describe the reported engagement, rather than a promise of results for another organization.
