Move insight upstream

On-time launches and final benefits matter, but they arrive too late to guide many important decisions. Leaders need a small set of meaningful checkpoints that show whether the work between kickoff and completion is progressing as expected.

Choose measures that prompt decisions

Build indicators around milestones, critical dependencies, resource pressure, and emerging risk. Agree what a signal means, who reviews it, and what action it can trigger. A useful KPI should help leadership reallocate capacity, change sequence, reset expectations, or stop work whose value has diminished.

Improve the system over time

Consistent measurement also reveals patterns across initiatives: repeated estimating errors, recurring bottlenecks, or overloaded teams. Use those patterns to improve the operating model. Clear, timely insight is more valuable than a larger reporting burden.
