Move beyond delivery reporting
Schedules, budgets, and common methods remain essential. The PMO’s greatest contribution, however, is often its view across competing demands for talent, capital, and time. That position calls for the financial judgment and enterprise perspective associated with a CFO.
Make tradeoffs visible
Challenge initiatives that no longer justify their resources, expose opportunity costs, and recommend moving capacity toward stronger strategic returns. Credibility depends on understanding the business and communicating choices in executive terms. Evaluate the PMO through avoided waste, better investment decisions, and progress toward strategic goals, alongside delivery performance. A full portfolio is not proof of a valuable one.
